Emerging Tech Reshaping Process Engineering

Q1. Could you start by giving us a brief overview of your professional background, particularly focusing on your expertise in the industry?

I am an experienced process engineering leader with over 14 years in the oil & gas, fertilizer, and petrochemical sectors, demonstrating a rare blend of hands-on operations, EPC project execution, and advanced R&D expertise.

I have proven success in simulation modeling, process design, and optimization using Aspen HYSYS, EDR, and related tools. Delivered high-impact projects with ARAMCO, Samsung Heavy Industries, and SABIC, covering upstream separation, pilot plant operations, and catalyst evaluation.

I am a Patent-holder and innovator with three patents (including one granted US patent) in fertilizer technologies; I was recognized with SABIC’s “First Patent Filing” and “Excellence” awards for technology optimization and new product introduction.

In addition, I have a strong track record in pilot plant commissioning, troubleshooting, and process scale-up, with hands-on experience operating fluidized-bed granulators, reactors, and fixed-bed catalyst units.

I am also adept in engineering documentation—PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, control philosophies, and safety reviews (HAZOP, HAZID)—and skilled at ensuring regulatory compliance and quality standards (ISO, OHSAS, SHEMS).

Q2. From your experience, which emerging digital technologies or platforms are most promising for future process efficiency gains in petrochemicals and fertilizers?

Based on my knowledge, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), digital twins, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) are the most promising digital technologies in the petrochemicals industry, and advanced data analytics are popular in the fertilizer industry.

Q3. In your view,  which emerging vendors or tech startups are most promising for advancing digital transformation in the petrochemical and fertilizer sectors?

As far as my knowledge goes, Artificial Intelligence Global Company (AIGC), AVEVA, Honeywell, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Siemens are the emerging vendors for digital transformation.

Q4. How are emerging technologies in onshore upstream oil & gas reshaping process engineering and operational efficiencies in 2025?

Emerging technologies will provide a clear roadmap and help optimize processes and improve efficiency by minimizing gaps in the upstream oil and gas industry.

Q5. What macroeconomic or geopolitical factors pose the greatest uncertainties for Digital Transformation and AI-Driven Process Optimization in these industrial process segments?

Geopolitical factors may affect the implementation of digital transformation due to the imposition of extra taxes and low crude oil rates, etc.
