AI & Automation: Mobility’s Next Edge

Q1. Could you start by giving us a brief overview of your professional background, particularly focusing on your expertise in the industry?

I am a Business development and Business strategy professional with a firm grasp of electronics and electric vehicle powertrain technology, intense exposure to South Asia and the Indian market, and a keen eye for future trends and technologies.

Q2. In what ways are changing consumer preferences influencing product innovation and material choices in the mobility sector?

The mobility sector is predominantly driven by government policy and innovation driven by customer demand, such as innovative infotainment systems, LED lamps, and other features.

Q3. How do you see automation, AI, or digitalization changing the nature of value creation in this industry?

Currently, AI is impacting all industries, including mobility. Smart connectivity, real-time road information, calling, and in-car entertainment will all be affected by AI.

Q4. How do you envision the next phase of sustainability — beyond carbon neutrality — redefining industrial competitiveness?

EV and Hybrid technology will drive the next phase of the mobility segment, with greater comfort, higher quality, and better after-sales services, another factor that impacts industry competitiveness.

Q5. How are global disruptions — like raw material volatility or policy shifts — impacting your market outlook for EV components?

EVs and Hybrids will take over mobility segments sooner or later. New technologies in EV motors, focusing on rare-earth-free magnets, and Hydrogen technology under development create good prospects. Current geopolitical conditions will not remain the same in the near future, but they can have a direct impact in the short term.

Q6. When evaluating innovation or technological capabilities in the EV component space, which companies do you consider as benchmarks and why?

For the battery pack and Cell, we have CATL and BYD, which can be taken as a benchmark- the way they create the technology and capacity is commendable, both of these companies are present in almost all the mobility markets, controlling nearly 50% share.

Q7. If you were an investor looking at companies within the space, what critical question would you pose to their senior management?

Target customer, target product, and margins coming out of this business.
